Brian Solis at Media Summit in Ontario

Attending the Media Summit in Ontario was a turning point for some of my thinking. I came away with some clearer thoughts about what is happening to media and what opportunities are before us. Here are a couple of them. They may not be life commandments yet but I predict these thoughts will continue to tide their way into our lives.

Websites will grow more interactive.

Websites will be more collaborative.

Churches will pay more attention to their websites in the future, at least the churches that want to grow and can grow.

Websites are like greeters for your church and you know how important your greeters are.

More people are turning to your website to make a decision if they will attend your church for the first time. I don't think this is true for out of town visitors who would have come to your church anyhow, but more true for local folks who are already going to a church but might be thinking of switching. If your site doesn't click with them, they probably will not visit your church.

Tech continues to make presentations more interesting.

Tech is actually easier today to hide and yet still use. It can be minimized while maximized if you know what I mean. Tech is not the message, Christ is, the Word is. Yet tech has never been more helpful in sharing the Message.

Social Media creates a whole other church, sometimes outside your church walls, sometimes deep within. Do a google search on Social Media Church and you will get a sense of what's possible. I just wrote an article for Outlook, read it here. You'll get a sense of what's possible from reading part one and two of that article and I consider what I wrote just a beginning.

Pay attention to Google+, it may be a gamechanger. I expect that it's Huddle and Hangout features will create a third space on the internet for collaboration. Going to be interesting, you can get ten folks together for video chat.

That's enough random raving for a while about tech. I've got lots of other things to do. Getting involved with the Media Summit caused me to focus on some of these subjects, its worth the time of course, but I have to write about some other things too. Have a great weekend.
